Rumors about Apple AirPods always do the rounds. It’s been more than two years since Apple’s – and the world’s most popular – true wireless earbuds received a refresh. A report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple will launch two variants of the AirPods – one in 2021 and the other in 2022.
The one that is expected to hit the market in 2021 will be the base variant of the AirPods – allegedly AirPods 3. Apple will change the design of the AirPods, according to the report. The AirPods 3 would look more like the current AirPods Pro with a brand new case and shorter stems.
AirPods Pro should also receive a refresh in terms of functions. According to the Bloomberg report, AirPods Pro 2 will have updated motion sensors and fitness tracking capabilities.
The report goes on to say that Apple tested a stemless design for the AirPods Pro – something that is expected to be seen first in Beats wireless earbuds, which could hit the market next month.
Very little is known about other features of the two models of Apple AirPods. It is not known whether Apple could opt for new colors or stick to the “only white” color guideline for the new AirPod models.
Speaking of colors, the third product in the AirPods range is the AirPods Max – over-ear headphones. Bloomberg’s report says Apple currently has no plans to work on the second generation AirPods Max. However, Apple could bring new color variants of the AirPods Max onto the market in the future.
Apple AirPods have dominated the market for the past few years, and while growth may have slowed, they remain the most popular true wireless earbuds in the world.
