Epic Games announced that Early access for his next-generation 3D tool – Unreal Engine 5. The Early Access program is aimed at game developers and developers from around the world world Give them a head start to start prototyping and testing the properties of the new 3D tool.
According to the company, Unreal engine 5 gives designers freedom, fidelity, and flexibility by giving them new features like nanites and lumens for enhanced visual effects.
Apart from that, the new engine will also bring a partition system with which developers can implement scalable content in their projects.
Epic has also confirmed that they will be testing the engine in-house and will be porting Fortnite to Unreal Engine 5 in the near future.
Delivery of the Unreal Engine 5 will begin in early 2022. The company has confirmed that the Early Access build has only been tested in game development workflows and gives game developers the opportunity to take control of some of the new features in UR5.
Unreal Engine 5: main features
Nanite’s virtualized micro-polygon system enables users to create games with massive, unprecedented amounts of geometric detail. This allows developers to directly import movie-quality source assets made up of millions of polygons and place them in millions, maintaining frame rate in real time without noticeably affecting fidelity.
Lumen is a fully dynamic global lighting solution that enables users to create dynamic, believable scenes. With Lumen, indirect lighting adapts to changes in direct lighting or geometry during operation, e.g. B. changing the angle of the sun with the time of day, turning on a flashlight or opening an outside door.
The new World Partition system in Unreal Engine 5 changes the way layers are managed and streaming, automatically dividing the world into a grid and broadcasting the required cells. Team members can also work on the same region of the same world at the same time without stepping on each other’s toes via the new One File Per Actor system. You can use data layers to create different variations of the same world – such as: B. Day and night versions – as levels that exist in the same area.
The UR 5’s new animation toolset allows developers to create detailed characters in dynamic real-time environments. Artist-friendly tools like Control Rig allow you to quickly create rigs and share them with multiple characters. Pose them in Sequencer and save and apply the poses with the new pose browser. The new full-body IK solver makes it easy to create natural motion.
MetaSounds: Unreal Engine 5 introduces a fundamentally new way of creating audio with MetaSounds, a high-performance system that provides complete control over audio DSP Graphical generation of sound sources so that users can manage all aspects of audio rendering for next generation procedural audio experiences.
Editor workflow: The revised Unreal Editor offers an updated visual style, optimized workflows and optimized use of the screen space, which makes it more convenient to use.
MetaHumans: MetaHumans created in MetaHuman Creator are compatible with both UE4 and UE5. Sign up for MetaHuman Creator Early Access to start importing your own MetaHumans, or simply download one of Quixel Bridge’s 50+ pre-made digital people.
