Apple Watch has been the best-selling smartwatch in the world for many years. But Google and Samsung You may have a plan to curb Apple’s dominance. At Google I / O 2021, Google announced that the Wear OS and Samsung Tizen OS would be merged.
In a blog post, Google stated, “We’ve worked hard in three areas: building a unified platform with Samsung, delivering a new customer experience, and providing updates to your favorite Google apps.”
In the future, Wear and Tizen OS will be a single platform. “By working together, we were able to leverage each of the strengths of each and combine them into an experience that delivers faster performance, longer battery life and more of the apps you love for the watch,” Google said in the blog post.
Google claims that apps will launch up to 30% faster on the latest chipsets with smooth UI animation and movement. The lower layers of the operating system have been optimized for better and longer battery life. “This includes practical optimizations such as the ability to operate the heart rate monitor continuously during the day, track your sleep overnight and still have battery for the next day,” said Google.
Other smartwatch manufacturers can also customize the operating system. Developers can use Android Tools for building apps, according to Google.
Google Maps and the Google Assistant are being redesigned and improved for Wear OS. Google Pay is also being redesigned to support 26 new countries beyond the 11 countries currently available. Youtube music will also arrive at Wear later this year, with features like smart downloads that subscribers can use to enjoy music on the go, according to Google.
