The new feature that the Google Photos app will get is called Cinematic moments. Building on the feature for cinema photos launched last December, Google will add support for computer photography to bring images to life.
Google explains this process by saying that when people try to take a perfect photo, they typically click the same shot two or three times. The algorithm uses “neural networks to synthesize the motion between two nearly identical photos and fill in the gaps with new images” to create vivid, moving images known as cinematic moments.
Apart from that, Google Photos is also getting new features related to reminders. First, the app is supported for new ones memories for things beyond photos from years past, recent highlights, moments with another person. This may not include such obvious visual patterns across images when the AI ”finds a set of three or more photos that have things like shape or color in common”. This expansion of Google Photos is expected to take place this year.
Another feature related to memories that will be available in Google Photos later this year are moments – like Diwali, New Year, Hanukkah – that are celebrated by users.
At the same time, the app shows Best of Month Memories and Trip Highlights.
Google Photos is also designed to make it easier to find controls related to reminders. Google Photos already includes controls for hiding photos of specific people or time periods.
