The government has announced that it will launch a new website for electronic income tax filing. The official website will have a new URL – “https://www.incometax.gov.in” – and will replace the existing one – “https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in”. Note that both websites are based on the secured HTTPS protocol and not HTTP. The new website is scheduled to go online on June 7, 2021.
Income tax e-filing services will not be available for 6 days
The Income Tax Department also announced that the existing income tax website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in) will not work between June 1-6, 2021. You cannot access the electronic filing services during this time. The Income Tax Department advised citizens to plan their work accordingly. If they need to access ITR services or submit a response, they must do so either by May 31, 2021 or after June 7, 2021.
The government has already extended the deadline for companies to issue Form 16 by one month to July 15, 2021. Also, is the due date for submission Income tax refund for the 2020-21 fiscal year for individuals has been extended to September 30, 2021. The deadline for companies to submit ITRs has been extended to November 30, 2021.
The new website is expected to perform the ITR login process similar to the old website. However, it is very important that citizens visit the correct official website for electronic income tax filing – “https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in”. Also note that the official email address that the Income Tax Department uses to send emails, notifications, and other notifications is “DONOTREPLY@incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in”. Whenever you receive an email regarding ITR, always check the sender’s email address first to prevent phishing attempts.
