IIT-Kanpur helps ICMR test drones deliver Covid-19 vaccines

The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) will conduct a study on the feasibility of its use Drones to deliver Covid-19 vaccination. The council has received permission from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and General Directorate Civil Aviation (DGCA) for a feasibility study.
The ICMR will conduct the study in collaboration with the ICMR Indian Institute of Technology ((I … IT), Kanpur.
The permit was granted under the “conditional exemption” of the UAS rules (Unmanned Aircraft System) from 2021. In an official press release, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said the permit exemption will be valid for a period of one year or until further orders.
This conditional permission to use drones was also granted to other authorities and bodies for this purpose. These institutions are municipal corporations of Dehradun, Haldwani, Haridwar and Rudrapur for the creation of a GIS-based real estate database and an electronic tax register. the Kota and Katni departments of the West Central Railway for train accident sites and the maintenance of rail freight safety.
“These exceptions only apply if all conditions and restrictions specified for the respective company are strictly observed. In the event of a breach of a condition, the exemption becomes invalid and the MoCA & DGCA can take action, ”said the ministry’s press release.
