Facebook’s own photo and video sharing platform Instagram has started testing a new feature that will allow users to hide the feature like to count of their post. This feature also allows users to choose whether or not to count likes on other users’ posts. This emerges from a report by TechCrunch Website.
It’s not the first time Instagram has tested this feature. If you can remember, the company started testing the feature back in 2019 with a limited number of users in select regions. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, they focused on more important functions.
Previously, the “Hide Likes” feature only allowed users to choose whether or not to show other users the number of likes. Now the company is giving users the option to choose whether to view and display the same counts.
The TechCrunch report also mentions that Facebook will be testing a similar feature for its own social media platform as well.
According to Instagram, the feature originally aimed to reduce the anxiety and embarrassment of users who often argue about the total number of likes on their posts. The company also mentioned that this type of problem is mostly among younger users.
In user feedback, not all users agreed with the idea of hiding likes from the post. Most of the influencers and users who create branded content for their page and profile said that the total number of likes helps them keep track of their popular and trending content.
Whether you like the idea or not, the feature is currently limited to a limited number of users on Instagram.
Also, the users selected for the test will see the option to hide likes.
