It was a matter of time, wasn’t it? The “glorious” ad-free run of Instagram roles comes to an end. Full screen ads are slated to hit Reels, according to a report from Engadget, and India will be among the first markets to show them up. The report says that, besides India, the countries that are serving reel ads are Germany, Brazil, and Australia. In other countries, ads will appear in the next few months.
The report also shows how ads are showing. The commercials will be very similar to the Instagram ads in stories. “Ads can run for up to 30 seconds and users can interact with them like they would with organic posts (including skipping altogether),” the report said. The ads may also have “Buy Now” buttons that are likely to take users to the advertiser’s website or Instagram page.
Interestingly, the feature will be announced a day after Instagram launched its first consumer marketing campaign in India. According to a report by The Business hoursThe campaign aims to celebrate the creators and their creativity in reels. The campaign is called “Do Your Thing”.
Reels is Instagram’s answer to TikTok and allows users to create short videos. The India marketing campaign will feature a series of 15 second ads and highlight AR, music and editing features that developers can use on Instagram roles.
Meanwhile, the Engadget report also reveals that Instagram is looking for sticker ads for stories. These ads are primarily intended for “influencers” and allow them to “link to specific products that their followers can buy”.
