Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will officially step down from the post Amazon CEO on July 5th of this year, according to a report from Variety. According to the report, the date – July 5th – is sentimental to Bezos, as Amazon was founded on the same date in 1994, 27 years ago.
The next CEO of Amazon would be Andy Jassywho currently holds the position of CEO of Amazon Web Services.
Although Bezos is stepping down from the role of Amazon CEO, he will remain with the company as Executive Chairman.
“I am very excited to take on the role of CEO, where I will direct my energy and attention to new products and early initiatives,” the report quoted him as saying. Bezos briefed the world of his decision at Amazon’s annual general meeting.
Bezos had uplifting words for the next CEO. “He has the highest standards and I guarantee Andy will never let the universe make him typical. He has the energy to stay alive within us, which is what made us special. ”
Amazon started out as an online bookstore and grew into a full-fledged e-commerce business. Is considered to be one of the big tech companies that also belong to Apple, Google and Facebook, the company also has a cloud technology platform called Amazon Web Services, which was launched by Andy Jassy 18 years ago. AWS has proven to be quite profitable for the tech giant, generating a large portion of the revenue for the company. According to the report, next CEO Jassey has brought former executive Jeff Blackburn back to Amazon to oversee the company’s media and entertainment departments.
