MWC 2021: MWC 2021: Vivo offers a live demo of 8K UHD videos with 5G mmWave

Vivo conducted a live demonstration of 8K ultra high definition video streaming (UHD) with 5G at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai 2021. The company used an on-site 5G mmWave base station for transmission 8K UHD video from a server to a vivo smartphone, which then wirelessly projected the UHD video onto an 8K television. The Vivo smartphone used on the exhibit supports multiple 5G sub 6GHz and mmWave frequency bands (n257 / 258/260/261) using NSA dual connectivity (EN-DC).
MWC Shanghai 2021 included a 5G mmWave zone to demonstrate and test the requirements of potential application scenarios for 5G mmWave, especially at winter sports events. The zone showed the potential for 5G mmWave for the Winter Olympics.
Currently, the global 5G service is mainly based on sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectra. Millimeter waves are electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 1 mm to 10 mm and a frequency range of 30 GHz to 300 GHz. Compared to frequency bands below 6 GHz, mmWave offers unique advantages such as a larger bandwidth, less delay of the air interface and a more flexible configuration of the air interface, which can effectively meet the requirements for the wireless communication system capacity, transmission rates and differentiated applications, according to Vivo.
