NEW DELHI: Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus launched his latest OnePlus 9 series of smartphones in India earlier this year.
The company launched three smartphones in the series – OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R. During the launch, the company announced that the 5G-enabled smartphones support the 5G SA / NSA bands N41 and N78.
However, various online reports state that OnePlus customer care has confirmed that three smartphones will receive support for additional 5G bands. The reports mentioned that the company will roll out an OTA update after which the smartphones will get support for more 5G bands.
Now OnePlus employees have confirmed that the company will not add any additional 5G bands to the OnePlus 9 series in India. When answering FAQs, one of the OnePlus employees confirmed that smartphones will not receive any additional 5G bands via a software update in the country.
In an official statement, OnePlus said: “The Indian OnePlus 9 series models only support 2 bands for 5G New Radio (NR). The 5G bands of the OnePlus 9 series are mainly determined based on the priority of the Indian carriers. The band with the highest priority is n78, which will be the most widely used 5G bands in India and has the widest frequency reflecting the benefit of the previous 5G transmission rate, then possibly n41 and other bands. In the meantime, we will continue to work closely with Indian Carriers work together to monitor regional developments and continuously improve our products and services so that OnePlus users can enjoy a fast and smooth 5G experience. ”
Recently, OnePlus introduced the OxygenOS 220.127.116.11 software update for the OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9. The software update contains a security patch for the month of May 2021. In addition, the OTA update brings some camera improvements for both smartphones. The update introduced by the company will also improve the charging performance of the two smartphones.
