Sundar Pichai Says Google To Contribute Rs 135 crore To The Covid-19 Fight In India

Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on India and its people as cases hit all-time highs and hospitals struggled to cope. Taking into account the current situation, Google intervened with funding for medical care and community support in general. Google CEO Sundar Pichai went to Twitter and said: “Devastated by the worsening Covid crisis in India. Google & Googlers provide @GiveIndia, @UNICEF, Rs 135 crore for medical care, organizations supporting high-risk communities, and grants to disseminate critical information. “Pichai’s tweet also had a link to a blog where Google detailed how it will help in efforts to tackle the current situation.

On the blog, Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and VP, Google India “Our Google community and their families are feeling the devastating effects too. We wonder what more we can do as a company to ensure people get the information and support they need to keep their families and communities healthy and safe to keep. ”
Google announced Rs 135 crore of new funding from India. This includes two grants from Google org, Google’s philanthropic arm, a total of 20 rupees. The first is GiveIndia, a nonprofit, which provides grants to families hardest hit by the crisis to help meet their daily expenses. The second grant goes to UNICEF, which will help bring urgent medical supplies, including oxygen and testing equipment, to where they are most needed in India.
That being said, Gupta said on the blog that to date 900 Google employees have donated Rs 3.7 billion to organizations that support high-risk and marginalized communities.
In addition, Gupta stated that this funding includes increased Ad Grant support for public health information campaigns. “We have been helping MyGov and that since last year World health organization Reach out to audiences with news focused on how to stay safe and vaccine facts. We’re increasing our support today with an additional Rs 112 crore in ad grants to local health authorities and nonprofits for more language coverage opportunities. ”
