The smartphone market in India has set a new shipping record, according to a report by Counterpoint Research.
According to the report, shipments rose 23% year-over-year to over 38 million units in the first quarter of 2021, the highest shipments in the first quarter of all time.
The report cited new launches, promotions, financial plans and pent-up demand from 2020 as the main reasons for this record delivery.
In the first quarter of 2021 Xiaomi led the market with a market share of 26%. According to the report, the Chinese consumer electronics giant saw 4% year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2021. Affordable handsets like Redmi 9A and upper-midrange offerings like Mi 10i contributed to the brand’s overall good performance.
Samsung finished in second place with a share of 20% and 52% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2021. The report claims that the South Korean, although this growth is mainly due to the company’s focus on the budget segment with launches of the M- and A-series The technology giant also tried to gain a share via offline channels.
BBK’s own brands Vivo, Realme and Oppo was in positions three, four and five. The report claims that Vivo and Oppo grew 16% and 12% year over year, respectively, and Realme saw a 4% decline.
Special mention was made in the report Apple and OnePlus too. It claimed that the iPhone The manufacturer saw 207% year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2021 and maintained its lead in the premium segment (i.e. over Rs 30,000) with a 48% market share. On the flip side, OnePlus grew more than 300% year over year in the first quarter of 2021 OnePlus North and OnePlus 8T broadcasts.
