NEW DELHI: South Korean technology LG recently announced that it would exit the smartphone business. The company confirmed that it will close the store completely by July this year. Despite going out of business, LG confirmed that it will continue to offer software updates for some of its devices.
The company has now published the list of LG smartphones that is preserved Android 12 and Android 13. In addition, the company has also listed the roadmap for Android 11 update.
The list of LG smartphones receiving Android 12 and Android 13 updates includes LG Wing, LG Velvet, LG V50S, LG V50, LG G8, LG Q31, LG Q52 and LG Q92.
On the other hand, the company confirmed that LG Velvet will receive an Android 11 update this month, while LG G8X will receive the update in the third quarter of 2021. The LG G8S, the LG Wing, the LG K52 and the LG K42 will receive the Android 11 update by the 4th quarter of 2021.
As mentioned above, LG will completely close its cellular business and exit the smartphone market by July 31st. The company announced that this decision will allow it to use its resources to grow other businesses like smart homes, robotics, AI, and electric vehicles.
“Core technologies developed in LG’s two decades of mobile business operations will be retained and applied to existing and future products,” the company said.
