Now that doesn’t seem to be all as the instant messaging platform has been discovered with a feature that may also help migrate chat history to a different phone number.
WABetaInfo, the online platform tracking WhatsApp’s upcoming changes and features, has discovered a feature that shows that the App provides assistance in transferring chats to another phone number.
This feature is expected to be introduced as a future update and will initially only be available when a user links a new device to their WhatsApp account. This is because the screenshot reads, “You will not be able to transfer later if you skip this step.”
Another thing the screenshot shows is that while migrating chats, users can also transfer media files.
There is currently no confirmation of when this feature will be introduced. However, WABetaInfo suggests WhatsApp develop them for both Android and iOS users.
It was announced back in April that a future update for iOS and Android from WhatsApp will offer the option of migrating users’ chat history. At the time, a screenshot titled “Move Chats to Android” followed by two options, “Update Now” and “Not Now” was discovered.
Currently, WhatsApp doesn’t allow its users to transfer chats when switching from iPhone on Android and vice versa.
While the app allows users to keep their chats in Google Drive (for Android users) and back up iCloud (for iPhone users) there is no support to migrate these backups from one device to another at the time of smartphone change.
