If you’ve ever switched between one Android Phone and iPhone as the primary device, you know what it’s like to lose that WhatsApp chats. While the app allows you to secure your chats in Google Drive (for Android users) and iCloud (for iPhone users) there is no support to migrate these backups from one device to another at the time of smartphone change.
How Whatsapp The FAQ page states that users cannot transfer chats when switching from iPhone to Android and vice versa.
However, this may soon change and WhatsApp users will finally have the flexibility to move chats from different devices.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the website that tracks the upcoming changes and features to Facebook’s own app, WhatsApp is about to roll out a feature that will allow chat history to migrate between iOS and Android.
According to the report, a future update of the app for iOS and Android will include the ability to migrate users’ chat history. The shared screenshot appears to be from the iOS version of the app as the title of the screen is “Move Chats to Android” followed by two options “Update Now” and “Not Now”.

“If the user tries to link a device with a different operating system to their WhatsApp account, they must always update to the latest WhatsApp update available in the App Store or in TestFlight to avoid compatibility errors with the Android version to avoid.” reveals the report.
There is currently no predicted date by which this feature will be introduced. However, it should go along with the support that the same WhatsApp account is used on multiple devices, which the report says may soon happen.
“While it doesn’t seem like it, WhatsApp gives this feature a high priority so you can use your WhatsApp account on multiple devices at the same time. The feature is taking a long time to develop as it fundamentally changes your WhatsApp experience and a lot of things have been rewritten to be compatible with multiple devices, ”the report adds.
