During the best of times too Apple and Facebook I have never seen many topics on an equal footing. Little love is lost between the two tech giants. However, that does not prevent companies from doing so attitude Ex-employees and such attitudes have reportedly caused a stir. According to a report by The Verge, a group of Apple employees are not happy about the hiring of Antonio Garcia Martinez, a former product manager on Facebook. However, the problem isn’t that the employee in question is a former Facebook employee.
The point of contention is a book called Chaos Monkeys by Martinez, which Apple employees and several critics have described as “racist” and “sexist”. The petition signed by a group of employees said that Martinez’s hiring “challenges parts of our inclusion system at Apple, including hiring panels, background checks, and our process to ensure that our existing culture of inclusion is strong enough to withstand people who Do not share our inclusive values, ”reads The Verge report.
Martinez’s book contains several misogynistic statements, according to the petition. For example. “Most women in the Bay Area are soft and weak, spoiled by worldliness despite their claims of being, and naive, and generally full of shit.” The petition cites several other such misogynistic references.
The petition continues: “Given the story of Mr García Martínez in which he has openly published racist and sexist statements about his former colleagues, we are concerned that his presence at Apple will contribute to an unsafe work environment for our colleagues, who are threatened by public harassment and privately bullying. ”
The petitioners have made some “demands”. “We require at least an assurance that Mr. García Martínez and anyone who shares his harmful views will not be involved in hiring, interviews or performance decisions during their tenure at Apple. Ultimately, we expect and deserve a transparent, deliberate, and detailed strategy from Apple to ensure that our culture of inclusion is strong enough to protect our team members from the prejudices like these that EVERY new hire brings with it. ”
Martinez has reportedly been hired by Apple as part of the Apple Ads Platform development team. Apple had not yet commented on this issue.
